CowZ never tires
| Posted by Lance Earl of DallyPost on December 09, 2010 |

One of the greatest advantages of CowZ is the fact that it will never get tired. It is williing and able to run, run, run. This is also it's greatest weakness.
Live cattle will only work for a given amount of time before it will simply quit. This is a good safety valve for the rider who tends to over train. When the cow starts to sour, effective training has come to an end and the rider generally stops.
CowZ has no such safety valve. It is very easy to over train until it is your horse that becomes sour. A key element of an effective training program must include a real effort to keep your horse interested in doing his job. When your horse decides that he is no longer happy about working CowZ, you have a real problem. I have found that is can be very difficult to change the mind of a sour horse.
When trainiing with CowZ, you must be the safety valve that decides when your horse has had enough. You must be more aware, more observent, and a better horseman. Always try to stop trainiing while your horse is still interested and trying. Watch him carefully for any signes of souring. These signs might include:
- Looking away or trying to leave the area of the flag.
- Becoming lazy and disinterested in the work.
- Pinning ears or tail wringing.
- Not moving with the flag.
Once these signes become apparent, you have already pushed your horse to far. The trick is to stop early, before you horse begins to tire.
The trick is to train with a plan. Before you start, know what you hope to acconplish. Be careful to set realistic and acheivable goals. A good ides is to set out to have your horse do just one thing just one tick better than the previous training session. Once that has been accomplished... quit!
