Peacetime Martial Law in America

May I speak freely? What are they smoking in the White House? In an executive order released on the 16th of March, 2012, the president took total control of every aspect of your life and mine. In the following paragraphs, I will quote key sections of the order and do my best to interpret the meaning.

"The White House

Office of the Press Secretary For Immediate Release March 16, 2012 Executive Order -- National Defense Resources Preparedness

EXECUTIVE ORDER

NATIONAL DEFENSE RESOURCES PREPAREDNESS

Section 101. Purpose. This order delegates authorities and addresses national defense resource policies and programs under the Defense Production Act of 1950, as amended (the "Act")."

This sounds reasonable enough. Sure, in times of great national emergency, sacrifices must be made by citizens in order to protect this country that we all love. However, this order goes far beyond that basic need and strips away individual civil liberties. Lets have a look.

"PART II - PRIORITIES AND ALLOCATIONS

Sec. 201. ... to promote the national defense over performance of any other contracts or orders, and to allocate materials, services, and facilities as deemed necessary or appropriate to promote the national defense, is delegated to the following agency heads:

(1) the Secretary of Agriculture with respect to food resources, food resource facilities, livestock resources, veterinary resources, plant health resources, and the domestic distribution of farm equipment and commercial fertilizer;

(2) the Secretary of Energy with respect to all forms of energy;

(3) the Secretary of Health and Human Services with respect to health resources;

(4) the Secretary of Transportation with respect to all forms of civil transportation;

(5) the Secretary of Defense with respect to water resources; and

(6) the Secretary of Commerce with respect to all other materials, services, and facilities, including construction materials.

(b) The Secretary of each agency delegated authority under subsection (a) of this section (resource departments) shall plan for and issue regulations to prioritize and allocate resources and establish standards and procedures by which the authority shall be used to promote the national defense, under both emergency and non-emergency conditions...

(e) ... Upon such approval, the Secretary of the resource department that made the finding may use the authority of section 101(a) of the Act, 50 U.S.C. App. 2071(a), to control the general distribution of any material (including applicable services) in the civilian market."

Am I reading this right? In these paragraphs, the President has given himself total, monarchy style, control of every imaginable resource. And just in case he forgot to grab everything, paragraph (6) grants him "all other materials, services, and facilities, including construction materials". Are you getting this? With this order, the government may, at any time and for virtually any reason, control supply of every resource. He who controls supply also controls the price and this not acceptable. Do we really want to put this type of control in the hands of the most fiscally inept administration in the history of this nation? The most heinous part of this is that these powers are granted in "both emergency and non-emergency conditions". Paragraph (e) is extremely troubling as it grants the president the authority to " control the general distribution of any material (including applicable services) in the civilian market.". In short, the president has given himself the right to grab any and every resource, civilian or otherwise, for any reason, emergency or otherwise, at any time he chooses. In any society, where this kind of power exists, corruption and dictatorship will be the only possible result.

Consider those things that are at risk. These include all food products, all energy, all transportation, all water, and, by the way, everything else. Unbelievable!

"PART III - EXPANSION OF PRODUCTIVE CAPACITY AND SUPPLY

(b) Each guaranteeing agency is designated and authorized to: (1) act as fiscal agent in the making of its own guarantee contracts...

Sec. 302. Loans. ...the head of each agency engaged in procurement for the national defense is delegated the authority of the President under section 302 of the Act, 50 U.S.C. App. 2092, to make loans thereunder.

(b) Materials acquired under section 303 of the Act, 50 U.S.C. App. 2093, that exceed the needs of the programs under the Act may be transferred to the National Defense Stockpile...

Sec. 304. Subsidy Payments. ...the head of each agency engaged in procurement for the national defense is delegated the authority of the President under section 303(c) of the Act, 50 U.S.C. App. 2093(c), to make subsidy payments, after consultation with the Secretary of the Treasury and the Director of OMB."

Here we go again. Guarantees, loans and subsidies. This current administration believes that we can borrow and spend our way out of trouble. Have a problem? Spend a few trillion. Don't have the money on hand? Borrow it. Can't get the loan? Raise the debt ceiling. All of this is brought to you by the same bunch that so aptly managed Fannie May, social security, Medicaid, food stamps, welfare, corporate bailouts, various subsidies,and the federal budget.

I was particularly troubled by paragraph (b). If all of this resource grabbing does result in the government holding more than it needs, returning these resources to the citizens, who produced them, is not an option. They will simply stockpile it.

Without benefit of checks and balances, this and many other ideas have become law under this administration. These laws have been formed in a way that was never considered by the constitution. What is going on? The writing is on the wall. The powers that be are advancing us toward a Monarchy controlled state. The world over, this has happened again and again. Little by little, civil liberty is eroded while people take casual notice and return to our happy, apathetic state only to wake one morning and realize that too much has been taken and that people didn't stop it while they still could.

People, this is the time. If you have a voice, use it. If you have government representation, get in their ear. Do it!
