Not a Damn Thing!

I just logged another birthday. I am old enough that birthdays tend to be a time of reflection about who and what I have become. Some of what I see is good, but then on the other hand... If I could change just one thing, it would be to reverse those times when I acted arrogent and superior to others who were just doing their best. Looking back I can see that when I pushed people down, what they desporately needed was a hand up, an arm around their shoulder, a brother.
Some are now gone. I wish that I could see Scott Sant, Sharron Lively, and Ron Craigon just one more time. Oh, how I would love to make things right with these people. It is painful to me that I have left things unsaid. Maybe I can learn from my mistakes and square things with others while I still can.
Recently some young friends of mine acted toward another just like I used to do when I was their age. Did they make a mistake? Yes. They can't see it now just as I coulden't then. They are good people. Time and maturity will lead them to see things from a better perspective. Instead of allowing them grow at their own speed, instead of doing the right thing, I got all puffed and arrogent all over again.
So, looking back... what have I learned? Not a damn thing!
Well, maybe next birthday. Until then, please have patience with a man who is trying and not always measuring up.
